After a few years of experimentation, I decided I was ready to make a narrative film. This was my first film, animated to a musical track that I wrote. I didn’t understand much about traditional cel animation at the time, so it’s all rendered as one layer on paper, drawn “straight-ahead” because the notion of “pose to pose” control was also foreign to me. And I didn’t know anything about the solvent Benzene, so it’s all colored with terribly toxic markers, the consequences of which have yet to fully manifest. There is a typical first film awkwardness to it, as I look at it now, but it’s made by someone who cared a lot; I couldn’t have worked any harder on it than I did.
